Harianlabuanbajo– Based on reports and a widely circulated video on May 29, 2025, we have received information regarding an unfortunate incident involving a female international traveler whose identity has yet to be confirmed who fell into an uncovered utility access hole along the far end of the road leading to Komodo Airport, Labuan Bajo.
On behalf of the Indonesian Hotel and Restaurant Association (PHRI) – BPC Manggarai Barat, we extend our sincerest apologies for the discomfort and distress caused by this incident. What should have been a pleasant and peaceful journey through Labuan Bajo regrettably turned into a painful and disappointing experience. We are truly sorry.
This incident does not reflect the values we uphold as an international tourist destination committed to safety, hospitality, and service excellence. We acknowledge that the responsibility for ensuring guest safety and comfort lies not only with the government but also with all members of the tourism ecosystem in Labuan Bajo.
As part of Labuan Bajo’s hospitality community, we feel a deep sense of responsibility and solidarity. Should you still be in Labuan Bajo, we humbly ask for the opportunity to meet with you in person. This meeting would be a sincere gesture of our commitment to demonstrating that Labuan Bajo is not only naturally beautiful, but also caring, responsible, and centered on the well-being of its guests.
We will also be coordinating with local government authorities to ensure that this infrastructure issue is promptly addressed and that similar incidents can be prevented in the future. More importantly, we wish to reaffirm our commitment to the physical safety, emotional comfort, and lasting trust of every traveler who visits our shores.
We believe that in every unfortunate event lies a valuable opportunity to grow and that meaningful hospitality is measured not only by stunning landscapes, but by the integrity with which we care for those who come to experience them.
